Americans are often fascinated with the lives of celebrities. From famous actors and actresses to athletes to politicians, people in California and throughout the rest of the country look for any detail regarding their personal lives. Although the person in the spotlight may hope the attention is for something positive, this is not always the case. Fans may lose respect for a person who is constantly making bad decisions, or breaks laws that symbolize integrity and honesty. With new ways of learning more about the stars, many Americans are getting a front room view into the lives of people they previously put on a pedestal.

After playing professional baseball for several teams and appearing in several episodes of a hit TV series, a former athlete was listed at the top of the list of those who owe back child support payments. It was determined that he owed $276,000 in back support to his two sons after he pleaded no contest in 2011 on charges that he failed to support his children.

When couples in California make the decision to divorce, the children involved may be the ones who feel the change the most. Divorce and child custody issues are often emotionally taxing for all involved, but children may at times feel lost and confused about the future when their parents are fighting. Although divorce may eventually be a positive thing for a child, a recent study found that the age of the child might factor seriously into how the child handles the splitting up of the family and the future of the parent-child relationship.

In a study designed to gain insight into why some people form strong attachments while others don’t, a professor at the University of Illinois recently discovered that children who were between birth and five years old during the divorce are more likely to be insecure in future relationships with their parents.

As the economy stagnates and recovers, and society changes what is viewed as a traditional family, the dynamic of families in California and throughout the rest of the country may change. Traditionally, most single parents were women, and women stayed home to care for their children and keep the home while the husband was working and supporting the family financially. Changes in the demographic of the American family may be responsible for increasing the number of single fathers who have child custody of their children after a divorce.

The Pew Research Center has recently seen several significant changes regarding the presence of fathers in single homes and caring for their children. Not only is the number of single dads growing, but also homes with single dads are more likely to have a partner present in the home.

The time period when a couple in California is ending a marriage may be highly emotionally charged, and at times it is difficult for either party to see through the anger and grief to settle the arguments and disagreements. The situations may be further complicated if the spouses are of the same sex and live in a state that doesn’t recognize or support gay marriage. Finalizing details regarding divorce and child support may be next to impossible if the state refuses to legally allow the two individuals to divorce.

Same sex couples that have not yet married but are considering that step are encouraged to create a pre-nuptial agreement to avoid problems if the couple moves to one of 37 states that don’t currently recognize gay marriage. In these states, the law may not allow for these couples to be divorced, and one or both parties may be forced to move to a different state before the divorce will be granted.

In situations where a woman cannot conceive, or is in a relationship with another woman, she may choose to use a sperm donor to become pregnant. At the time of the procedure, she may not be thinking of the future and a time when the father may decide he wants to assert his parental rights and obtain some sort of visitation or custody, but a recent court case involving a famous Hollywood couple has recently brought the issue to the state Capitol.

The couple was involved in a relationship when the little boy was conceived, although their stories differ on how they planned to raise him. According to the mother, she planned to raise the boy on her own, while the father’s representative claims he wanted to be involved in the parenting process.
